Real estate is a service industry, and we agents rely exclusively on commissions to get paid. Of course, a commission only gets doled out if a transaction occurs. You could be working with an agent for months at a time trying to buy or sell a home, but if a transaction doesn’t eventually transpire, no one gets paid; all of that time and effort goes to waste.
